The Avengers movie getting some great reviews

Even though a big budget superhero movie is far from the usual topics of concern at this blog, must note the overwhelmingly positive reviews that have been rolling out for the upcoming epic The Avengers.  And as a former comic book geek, I am excited to hear that the movie was well made.  Here's one such positive review at /Film.  From the review:

"The Avengers not only makes that fanboy fantasy a reality, the high-octane superhero extravaganza delivers on almost every level with well-rounded characters, plenty of humor and  jaw-dropping action. A few things do get left out in the wake of all that excitement but odds are you won’t really care. The Avengers is as fun as movies come and fans who’ve been waiting for a superhero team up on the big screen will leave the theater satisfied."

Amazon Studios 2.0 interview at Genre Hacks blog

Check it out here.

Here's the introduction to the interview, by Sean Hood:

"Last year I interviewed Amazon Studios Director, Roy Price, about Amazon's commitment to "develop movies in a new way" (see: Amazon Studios: An Interview with Roy Price.)  At that time there was still a lot of skepticism among screenwriters about Amazon's option policy, their relationship with the WGA, and the exposure of scripts (and ideas) to the public after uploading.

Never the less, the experience of writers and filmmakers who won prizes and entered the Amazon development and test-film process was mostly positive (see: An Amazon Studios Screenwriter.)  What I found interesting about Amazon was that they were willing to adjust their policies and the process based on feedback from the writers and filmmakers themselves, which struck me as unique in the closed world of Hollywood studios and production companies.

A week ago, Amazon announced additional changes to address write…

Link to a good article re: filmmaking (even though the author is a Lena Dunham fan)

Just for the record, I am not a fan of Dunham's new HBO show Girls.  Saw episode 1, and it was a predictable mumblecore gen snooze fest.  Some are complaining about the lack of minority characters in Ms. Dunham's NYC, true, that is a deep problem, but it is one of the last things Girls needs to worry about.  That show's got a long way to go before it can be considered HBO quality entertainment, in my opinion.  But you know, it's alright, people w/ little talent & skill get breaks all the time (why did they include Tiny Furniture in the Criterion Collection!!??!!), sometimes over and over (such as in the curious case of Dunham peer Joe Swanberg), and these well connected & privileged filmmakers do have an audience (a small one), and their existence & baffling amount of press attention & support could motivate other, more talented, more interesting filmmakers who have interesting things to say to put more work in to getting their movies made & out.  A…
