Trailer for The Peddler - doc about a DIY filmmaker in Argentina

Looks cool: More about the movie here . Distributor's page for the doc here . From Network's page linked above: "   Captivating and inspirational, this remarkable documentary by Argentinian film-makers Lucas Marcheggiano, Eduardo de la Serna and Adriana Yurcovich focuses on veteran DIY filmmaker Daniel Burmeister. Armed with one of several ready-to-use scripts, Burmeister arrives at a remote Argentinian village in his rickety car. He asks the village authorities for permission to shoot his latest feature film there, using residents of the village as cast and crew; he asks only for lodging and meals until his film’s release a month later. The offer accepted, the making of the film becomes the most important event to take place in the village during that month – and a testament to the power of art to draw together a community.  The winner of several international awards, The Peddler continues to garner huge acclaim for its honest portrayal of the enthusiasm, optim

Filmmaker/author Rick Schmidt on Breakthrough Weekend

Filmmaker & author Rick Schmidt recently viewed the rough cut of Breakthrough Weekend.  Among other things, he said the following: “ Breakthrough Weekend by Brooklyn-based indie writer/director Sujewa Ekanayake is very funny, exceedingly interesting & entertaining. It’s amazing that the hilarious ‘spiritual’ advice offered in core scenes actually transcends itself, supplying effective solutions to our (often stuck) modern lives!”   – filmmaker/author Rick Schmidt :: :: IndieGoGo - Breakthrough Weekend ::

Interview with Anthology Film Archives programmer Jed Rapfogel re: Cine-Simenon series

From the interview : "FA: As an American, can you share with us your first encounter with Simenon? Did you know him for his detective novels or mainly  for the numerous film adaptions based on his books? JR: I’ve always been aware of Simenon as the author of the Maigrets (and unfairly dismissed him as such), but it was only when New York Review Books (NYRB) began re-printing a number of his roman durs that I discovered what an amazing (and dark) writer he is.  I started with “The Man Who Watched Trains Go By”, and was immediately hooked.  I think that may still be my favorite, but I’m also a huge fan of “The Strangers in the House”, “The Engagement”, “Dirty Snow”, “Red Lights”, and “The Act of Passion” (and really all of the roman durs).  I’ve only read a couple Maigrets, to be honest, and wasn’t so taken with them."
