NYC Film Collective site link

So research into & exploration/development of the NYC DIY Filmmakers Co-op idea has begun. I found a site for a group called NYC Film Collective (thanks julio for the link!) - they seem to have the kind of attitude & spirit & approach that would make it possible for filmmakers to make & distribute movies outside of the restrictive & mysteriously selective festwood (film festivals), indiewood (a smaller version of Hollywood), and Hollywood (multi-million dollar productions using guild talent) structures (note: festivals are far more friendly to DIY filmmakers than Indiewood or Hollywood, but all 3 avenues are inaccessible to most indie filmmakers). From the intro to the NYC Film Collective site:

"A Painter needs only a paintbrush and a canvas; a musician needs only two turntables and a microphone! Yet to be a filmmaker it seems thousands of dollars are needed to make something that nobody is going to see anyway or to be an actor you must wait for someone else to give you exposure. If you're one of those people waiting around for financing to come through so you can make or star in Citizen Kane II that's cool, I'm not.

This organization is for people who have stories to tell and opinions to express. Lots of people sit around and talk and dream of all the great things they are going to do, that's not you. You want to get out there and make interesting films/videos with few resources beyond your brain and drive.

So if you like writing, shooting video, acting, organizing shoots, recording sound, editing sound or video, lighting, costume, set design, location, make-up, animation or whatever, just come out and get involved, it will be fun and rewarding."

Let's take a closer look at Mike Tully's negative review of IFBRT & see if we can clarify some things

Mike Tully (presently inactive filmmaker who is not a fan of shooting on DV, who is now running things - as far as I know - at the review site Hammer to Nail, who also blogs at indieWIRE, & who wrote a brief & positive review of Date Number One in '06, & a fellow Marylander who generally seems like a cool dude) attended the World Premiere of Indie Film Blogger Road Trip and wrote a review of the doc . There are several items in that review that I'd like to comment on. So here we go: "At its best, Sujewa Ekanayake’s Indie Film Blogger Road Trip is certain to go down as one of the more bizarre time capsules of life on early-21st Century Earth." Cool - life on Earth in early 21st century - right now - is pretty bizarre, so a film dealing with a new, early-21st Century thing like film blogging/a film blogging community, should reflect that reality. The doc, however, is very simple & conventional in its form & content (shots of people talking). It is i
