From YouTube page - "Ian and Sujewa welcome actor Thomas Jay Ryan for a lively and enlightening look at the movie that began his film career, HENRY FOOL!
Writer/director Hal Hartley's bizarre dramedy centers on the contentious relationship between a Long Island garbage man named Simon (James Urbaniak) and the mysterious, eponymous drifter (Ryan) who awakens his staggering gifts as a writer. HENRY FOOL premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 1997 and went on to win Best Screenplay at Cannes the following year. Here, Thomas opens up about what it was like transitioning from stage to screen with hot indie fixtures like Hartley and co-star Parker Posey; discovering new definitions of success in the world of acting; and reuniting with Kevin Corrigan in Onur Tukel's dynamite 2021 film, SCENES FROM AN EMPTY CHURCH! Also, learn about the most unintentional and least effective product placement in cinema history! PLUS: Sujewa talks about the recent Brooklyn premiere of THE SECRET SOCIETY FOR SLOW ROMANCE and teases a possible future role for our esteemed guest!"

The New Indie Film Canon - 50 Films By 10 Filmmakers

By Sujewa Ekanayake I was having an argument with the guy behind the counter at one of my local delis about wether it was possible and or useful to create a new indie film canon. Creating a list of films that are good examples of the unique art form that indie/non-Hollywood film has become over the past 30 (Dogme 95 starting around 1995) to 70 (Breathless screening at Cannes in 1960) or so years. The guy behind the counter at the deli did not think it was a good idea, but he did offer me free coffee in exchange for placing some of his favorite sci-fi horror movies on the list - if I made the list. Many of those movies involve zombie cheerleaders from outer space. I decided to pay for the coffee. The films on this list are real indie/independent, largely non-Hollywood films. Made and often distributed without the financial backing or creative control of established, large, mainstream film studios or production companies and or distribution companies in the United States.
