The YouTube New Wave is here - mainstream accessible, well made indie films by filmmakers who promote their work

See two examples of YouTube New Wave (term coined by filmmaker Chris Sharpe) indie films below. Previously releasing indie films - features - on YouTube was a fringe, hobbyist activity, done by part time filmmakers with no interest in developing a mainstream audience or careers.  But now well made indie films by serious filmmakers who promote their work are getting a lot of views - over 100,000 - on YouTube.  Here are two: my movie - fiction feature - Cosmic Disco Detective Rene, and Jason Horton's Who They Are feature documentary.   *  

Young Ali plays much better on the movie theater screen - review #2

Just got back from showing Amir Motlagh 's new film 'Young Ali - those were the days' at Film Noir Cinema in Greenpoint, Brooklyn as a part of my Indie Discovery LA In NYC film screening series. Noticed a huge difference in the viewing experience between the movie at the movie theater versus when I saw the movie at home. Today's screening event attracted several Iranian-American/Persian audience members. They were laughing at things that I did not notice at home - so that was interesting. Motlagh makes very real world focused and poetic movies - so, it's not a surprise that his movie about an Iranian-American middle aged man trying to start over after a divorce while dealing with the Covid crisis and living again with his parents would have some culturally specific humor in it. On the big screen the movie moves fast - or at the appropriate speed. It does not feel slow. Also the deadpan humor in the movie works much better on the large screen. And the several types o
