"In what ways have you taken cues from George Takei's Sulu? He's sort of defined the role for forty years. And in what ways have you tried to make the character your own?
Well, I think... I won't speak to any particulars, partially because I don't think it's a good idea, and I don't think we're allowed to, but I'll just say this. For myself, the filmmakers, the other actors, I think we've all tried to honor the original series and do something new at the same time. I think that's been a general ethos around the set, and it seems to me that we're all doing that. The actors, the designers, the director."
